LOWELL, MA – Patrick Maroon’s goal in the ninth round of the shootout clinched the Philadelphia Phantoms’ 2-1 win over the Lowell Devils on Wednesday at the Tsongas Arena.

After the two teams skated to a 1-1 tie through regulation, the five-minute over time period would not be enough to decide the contest.  Jared Ross put the Phantoms up in the second round of the shootout, but the Devils responded in the fourth round on a low wrist shot by Brad Mills.

Mills later gave Lowell an opportunity to win in round eight with his second goal, but Jonathan Matsumoto beat Jeff Frazee with a high wrist shot.  Scott Munroe would deny Matt Halischuk on the next shot before Maroon secured the victory.

The Phantoms jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 3:48 of the first after a Devils turnover in their own zone.  Jared Ross fed the puck to the left wing for a streaking Andreas Nodl, who placed a wrist shot over a sprawled Frazee.

Lowell got on the board midway through the second period when Matt Spiller’s seeing-eye shot from the point found its way past Munroe and inside the left post.

The Lowell Devils travel to take on the Albany River Rats on Saturday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m.  Listen to the game live on 980AM-WCAP or ahllive.com.  For more information about  individual tickets and group packages, call (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or log on to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
